Peyton Young’s Fair Representation Receives 2008
George H. Hallett Award
Economic Studies Senior Fellow
Peyton Young and co-author Michel L. Balinski received the 2008 George H. Hallett Award from the American Political Science Association for their book,
Fair Representation: Meeting the Ideal of One Man, One Vote, published by the
Brookings Institution Press.
The Hallett Award is given annually to a book that has strongly and continually impacted the literature on representation and electoral systems. Young and Balinski’s 2001 book introduces a theory of fair representation based on U.S. history, which challenges the current apportionment formula.
